SOUTH CENTRAL REGION

The South Central region extends north from the Malahat section of Hwy. 1 and the south communities of Shawnigan Lake, Cobble Hill and Mill Bay. Duncan, the commercial center of the Cowichan Valley, offers a wealth of First nations culture. Charming communities such as Cowichan Bay, Crofton and Ladysmith welcome visitors with warm hospitality and fresh air fun. Chemainus is an outdoor art gallery of world famous murals and charming character. Within this region is the stunning & pristine Lake Cowichan, 34 kilometers (21 miles) in length. The lake and the world renowned Cowichan River provide exceptional outdoor wildlife and productive sport & fly fishing of many species such as Cutthroat, Rainbow and Brown trout as well as Kokanee, Steelhead and a wide variety of Salmon species. Deer, Elk and Black Bear frequent the surrounding woodlands and although rarely seen Cougar and Wolves prowl in the surrounding mountains. This Lake District is also the gateway to the magnificent Carmanah Walbran Valley.
